Note from the Editors:

Hello and welcome to the very first newsletter from Adventure Learning Initiatives.

The past four months, or so, have been a high adventure for all of us. An adventure into the great and wondrous realm of cyberspace. This site, now in its very healthy and chaotic infancy, was born of a dream. We know that sounds a bit Martin Luther-King’ish, but it really was born of a dream.

About a year ago now, a few of us were sitting around think about a way to pay forward all the knowledge and information that we have been given and experienced. All of us are teachers in different respects. Some of us prefer one-on-one interactions and some of us prefer teaching large groups. And we were looking at: “How would it be possible to reach more people? How could we make it possible for more people to learn how to live a life of pure, unadulterated adventure, freedom and love?”

And somewhere, along the meanderings of that conversation, someone mentioned the internet. It really is rather bizarre how one can use a tool for years and years to find information and yet completely forget that the same tool can be used to spread the information and skills that you have. And so our journey into html, page-ranking, keywords and meta-tags began. And by the way we have probably only taken the first step or two along this journey, but it feels like we have traveled light-years from where we started.

We have been refining and working on our site and on this newsletter for a while. And we have kept on shifting the date for the release of this first edition. And somehow it only seems appropriate that we send it out when so many people are spouting doom and gloom. This site has at its core the ideas of hope, inspiration and the realizing and manifesting of dreams and aspirations.

Now, we are not saying stick your head in the sand. Although that is a trait attributed to the ostrich, we would suggest it is more of a human trait, and honestly that is why the world climate is the way it is. Yes things are, as the phrase goes, “Hotting Up.” People in L.A. are currently experiencing that heat directly, what with the wild fires. But an interesting note on that is fire represents humility. The wonderful patchwork quilt that is America is now slap bang in the middle of a lesson about humility. For all those of you there and experiencing the recession remember to find the lesson. If you can find the lesson and claim that humility things can be whole lot smoother. As for the rest of the world, well we are all experiencing the so-called “Squeeze.” But this squeeze has been a long time coming.

Now you can either run off and hide behind the conspiracy theories and blame the powers that be. Or, you can acknowledge the fact that, finally, the old corporate structures that functioned well enough in the industrial age, have served their purpose. It is time for a world shake-up and shakedown. The end result being that those, with enough gumption of change, freedom and choice will step to the plate and begin swinging the bat of positive re-creativity. As the old analogy goes, a diamond is just a lump of really old rotten wood that has been placed under intense heat and pressure. The great thing is you don’t need all that pressure and heat, not unless you really want to let the discomfort get that bad.

Unfortunately for many people things are bad, and things are going to get worse for those who resist the changes that are coming. But we say: “Why not get out there and be one of the people that is making positive changes happen.” Some of you may be going: “Oh yeah, right, what the hell am I going to do. Things are far to complicated for me to have any form of impact.” If you say so!

The funny thing about change is that it is really simple. And right now quite frankly all that is required is that you feel the love in your heart and share that love. Take the time out today to inspire someone else, and be inspired by them being inspired. Instead of switching on the television and listening to the reports of recession and war look out your window and listen to the birds, smell the roses. Allow yourself the little gift of a moment of stillness and joy. Be inspired to take positive actions. If the lemmings are running for the cliff, let them run, but no one says you have to run with them. In fact we are suggesting run the other way as fast as your legs can carry you. And funnily enough as you run the other way more and more people will join you. Pay forward the positive moments. The World has seen many recessions and many wars come and go. The only reason we are still standing, as a species, is because there have always been enough people able to turn disaster into something positive. There have always been people who have pointed out a simpler and happier way of life, and there have always been enough people to listen.

SO take the time to truly feel that love and share it. There is no law that says you have to let the news affect you. It is a great way to see how the lemmings are behaving. But you don’t have to be a lemming. Why not be a gardener and plant little seeds of love and happiness wherever you go. Pay forward your knowledge and pay forward your love.

And just to get a little perspective, if you think a little recession is a huge thing, astronomers have realized that we are still acquiring new stars in our galaxy. Stars are being thrown into the Milky Way from other galaxies thousands of millions of light years away. Our galaxy is still growing up and so are we. But we are out of our adolescence as a race. Its time to map a new frontier, a frontier that is going to be carved by you. And that means it will either be one of ruin or one of unbounded success, love, simplicity and adventure.

The choice dear seeker (personally we prefer a finder) is yours.

Enjoy the newsletter and welcome to a world of sharing and paying it forward. Remember it only takes the tiny flame of a candle to disperse a room full of darkness.

Esoteric Healing I and II

Contributed by Colin Thompson, South Africa

Recently I attended the Esoteric Healing Courses I and II held by Louis here in Johannesburg, South Africa. To try and explain exactly what I went through would be very difficult and would be very unfair to those who will still attend the courses in the future should they ever be re-run.

However I was fully unprepared for the full extent it would have on me personally as well as the impact it would have in my reality and the people in that reality. I learned more about myself on the course than I have over the 40 years in this lifetime. What is really amazing for me, is that it is not so much the awareness of where I should be more gentle with myself or forgiving, but the awareness of how I reflect these aspects I should work with, on other people. The Control in me being reflected off the Petty Tyrant in someone else…..Amazing.

Initially I went on the course thinking it would be about healing other people…..I soon learned that healing yourself first is key, and you can resolve so much within yourself by healing others where often there is a dual cause, that as you work with others so you are working with yourself.

My dreams are the best way to describe what process I went through. About a week before the first course I had a dream that I was on this battlefield. I was with a whole bunch of Healers fighting this battle. We had to climb these ladders that reached down from the sky where the battle was raging above us. I climbed this ladder and reached this “place” at the top. There were many wounded lying around and we started laying hands on the wounded to heal them. As I began healing this wounded soldier, I looked behind me and there was this white polar bear charging towards me. I was terrified. However as it got closer, there were automatic machine guns on stands, near me, that would sense it was in my proximity and they would start firing at this bear. The bear would then retreat. I awoke after this.

Whilst on course I had another significant dream amongst others. I was crossing this major highway. It was quite significant because I remember dodging these cars over 5 or 6 lanes and I got to the other side. I was going somewhere when I heard this infant baby boy crying, but sobbing, to the point that I could feel its sadness in every bone of my own body. This infant was in a nappy but old enough to walk, a toddler – He was in this bus shelter with nothing much but a bowl of strawberries that he was eating. He was crying out that he wanted his bear. Another child, which was cruel and malicious said that this child could have the bear but only if this crying infant would hand over all the strawberries it had – this was all this crying infant had in its entire world – or that is what I perceived – The crying infant handed over this bowl of strawberries and spat out anything it was eating so it could get this bear. This other child then released this big gentle brown bear which ran over to the crying infant who by now had stopped crying. The bear and this boy then started to play and it was the most comforting thing for me to see in this dream. I sighed and felt relieved that this child was now happy and turned to walk away but something made me look back. As I looked back I saw the bear metamorphosis into this dog with a giant Phallus. I was scared for the boy, but I decided to walk away and not fight it, but instead I said to myself “That’s how it always goes……”. I woke up with this deep sadness.

My one last dream I wish to share before the second course related to an assassin that I knew was after me. It was a masked assassin. I was running from him but knew in my heart that no matter where I went it/ he would catch me – It was that strange fear of you can run but you can never hide. I found this theatre where everyone was watching something. I went to the back of the theatre and sat hiding but always looking at the entrance to make sure I could see the assassin if he arrived. As I became comfortable the assassin appeared from behind me. I remember in my dream thinking with exasperation “I never see him coming!” The assassin then looked at me in his mask and smiled and said, “you know the procedure”, as he pulled out a syringe to inject me in my feet. I wanted to kill him but could not. Instead I screamed to a person I knew next to me “Kill him, kill him!” The person took out a gun and shot him…I never did this…I then awoke.

So these dreams mean much to me. It’s all part of my own healing and I am not shy to share this. A part of my healing is sharing. These dreams brought out the aspect of self-sabotage that I work with daily. That’s just my war. We all have our own battles to fight. Healing is not just healing others, and it never stops. I realize now just how much healing is so integral to connecting to the “I” in me.

With all my love to those exploring their own self - Colin

The Benefits of Meditation

The most basic advantage of disciplined meditation is the ability to consciously enter a very deep state of relaxation. Through the deepening of breath and by withdrawing the mind from external stimuli one is able to attain a deeply relaxed physical and emotional state.

Through this process one is able to calm the body and emotions, thus allowing the mind to enter a very clear state. It is said that the best form of thinking is not to think at all. In its absolute essence that is what meditation is, the process of consciously stopping the internal dialogue and allowing oneself to think with absolute clarity, hearing the wisdom of ones inner voice.

Activating the Alpha Brain Wave State

With practice and through the use of meditation one is able to tap into the alpha brain wave state consciously. In this state the brain is absolutely clear in its perception and thinking, while the body is in a relaxed state. It is said that to be relaxed is not normal but it is natural. It is not normal because we are continuously receiving input from our outer and inner worlds. But for optimum human functioning the alpha state and the casual relaxed state of the body is the most natural human state of all.

Activating the Childlike Qualities of Imagination, Will, Desire and Expectancy

Through the continual practice of meditation we start to reconnect with those deep inner qualities and resources that every child understands and knows about. Through meditation it is made possible for you to reconnect with the basic tools for reality creation. If you have watched the Secret or What the Bleep Do We Know you are shown how these basic tools work.

Tap into Your Inspiration

One of the greatest results of meditation is one begins to clear the pathway towards focused inspiration. All great artists, scientists, leaders and mystics have gotten inspiration from within themselves. This inspiration can only find a place to explode into a person’s consciousness…

Clearing Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Blocks

Another of the benefits of meditation is a process whereby one can heal and clear blockages in the body, mind and emotions. Thus making it possible to have a stronger, more direct connection with the Higher-Self, God, Goddess, the Inner Divinity, whatever you choose to call it.

The process of stilling the mind and clearing the emotional state all lead to the deepening of communication with our higher-self or the divinity within. By removing your attention from the stresses of your daily affairs it becomes far easier to begin communicating…

Could It Be – The Art of the Pretender

In the mid-1990’s a fantastic television series was released called ‘the Pretender.’ In the series a young man, an engineered result of a powerful experiment, as is always the case to please the consensus, had tapped into his full genius. The boundaries of his genius had no ending and so it was that he was able to pick up any profession, or any role, within the consensus to ensure that he was able to assist and serve humanity to grow and shift.

His adventures ranged from playing a janitor through to being a neurosurgeon or an astronaut. Each role he chose was specifically focused on the people involved in that particular situation and his goal was specifically to assist them. However that assistance was not focused on saving, but rather making it possible for the people around him to tap into their own genius. His was the ultimate gift, the gift to awaken the gift of others. To do this however he had to be completely fluid. His ability was that of pure imagination and inspiration. He was able, within minutes, to absorb accumulate and put into action whatever it was that his particular role required. This he was able to do because of his pure intention to share and to serve. He allowed his mind to shift and he allowed himself to be without self-importance so as to be whatever the situation required him to be.

Now the reason I am writing about this is quite simple: we all have the capacity to be the pretender. Many great mystics and seers over the last centuries have all been similar in that they have had the capacity to shift professions, identities and to tap into latent resources that unlock all capabilities. However this is guarded by the ego and ones self-importance. If you want to do this purely for personal gain, chances are it won’t work. Your power will be kept from you until you are mature enough to wield it. On two occasions I myself have met such men and women. People who are seemingly normal human beings doing a normal job that seems of no major significance, and then suddenly they open their mouths and they are no longer a bartender or an accountant but a deeply self-actualized being that has been waiting for me to turn up and give me a piece of the puzzle that is life.

Now here comes the trick, magic is always about tricks, to find out why read the Power of Silence by Carlos Castaneda. The trick here is for you to see if you can start tapping into your own inner pretender. Watch the movie ‘Stranger than Fiction’ and watch how the character starts to tap into his own inner Pretender. When he realizes someone else is writing his life script he decides it is time to take action. One of the first things he does is to take stock of his dreams and then take action on them. But to take action on them he has to become a pretender. He has to enter a particular zone of adventurousness and inspiration. He pretends that he is a rocker and goes out and buys the guitar. He pretends that he is a lover and goes and seduces the girl of his dreams.

So the little task attached to this article is to go out there and become the adventurous pretender you truly are. The one that you heart has been whispering to you about for your entire life. Take stock of your dreams. Look at the ones you have not even started yet. Choose one, maybe it is to be a world famous painter; an incredible esoteric teacher; a brilliant healer; an astronaut. Whatever it is choose one. But take time over it. Spend three days pondering on that dream. Once you have decided on the one you want, then workout what would it take to be that person? Take three days to ponder on the requirements of that role. Spend about 20 minutes on it a day. Then After the three days of working on that particular person / character take three days to rehearse being that character, like an actor rehearsing a role in a film. Choose particular clothes. Allow the special qualities of being childlike to come through. Make it fun. Allow yourself to be inspired. And fill it with your wish. Your wish to truly have that dream and to be the person who has that dream. Also imbibe your rehearsal with the hope that somehow this dream will come to pass. After the three days of cultivating this character choose a bar or a restaurant or a place where you think this particular person would hangout. And then go there and be that person. Make sure you interact with at least one person other than the barman or the waiteress. Also see how the character you are working with may actually have some knowledge or action that could make it possible for the person you are interacting with to tap into their own dreams and aspirations. And have fun with this exercise. There is an incredible amount of energy that will be made available to you if you pursue this with genuine sincerity and then surrender to the experience of pretending. Don’t forget magic is everywhere; all it takes is a little inspiration and a wish to be part of it.

Simply Love, Finbar Kilcoran.

A Gentle Reminder: ho’oponopono.

"I Love You"

"I'm Sorry"

"Please Forgive Me"

"Thank You"

Since you are the sole creator of your entire existence, you have the power to create whatever "right" world that you want to live in, and you can do it by simply saying and believing those 4 simple phrases.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

Health tip of the month.

Occasionally when I am stressed or feeling unwell, I am reminded to simply “Breathe”

Practice mindful breathing:

Most people are "shallow breathers," meaning that breathing is concentrated in the upper portion of the lungs and is rapid. Proper breathing is slow on the inhalation, inflating the lungs fully and expanding into the belly. The exhalation is similarly slow and squeezes out all of the stale air in the lungs. Breathing in such a way not only oxygenates the entire body, allowing all of the body's systems to operate at peak efficiency, but it also calms and quiets the mind. Commit to being mindful of how you breathe throughout your day. Spend a few minutes every morning and evening enjoying your breath (which happens to be a form of meditation) or anytime you feel unwell, worn out or frazzled. Start now: as you continue reading this page practice slowly filling your lungs and belly with air and exhale.

Talking…

My mind has been busy for a long time,

busy with distractions,

busy with fear,

busy with wanting,

busy with talking,

busy with restlessness and longing for things I’m told I should have,

want, need at all costs,

costs to me, costs to soul,

costs to them, us, you, country, world, universe.

I longed for silence,

but silence is an absence,

it is nothing and there is nothing to fill the space between,

the space between the between, the gap, the hole,

the body that is me that I don’t want to see.

And slowly the glimmer of the whole,

the all, the connection,

the being, the moment, the lifetime,

the lifetimes, the journeys, the heart, the love.

My mind is no longer busy,

it’s no longer silent, it has found its twin,

the heart

and they talk all the time.

FOR A LAUGH…

Noah's Ark 2008

In the year 2008 The Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in England, and said: 'Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me. Build another Ark and save two of every living thing along with a few good humans.' He gave Noah the CAD drawings, saying: 'You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights.' Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard, but no Ark. 'Noah!' He roared, 'I'm about to start the rain! Where is the Ark ?' 'Forgive me, Lord,' begged Noah, 'but things have changed. I needed Building Regulations Approval and I've been arguing with the Fire Brigade about the need for a sprinkler system. My neighbours claim that I should have obtained planning permission for building the Ark in my garden because it is development of the site, even though in my view it is a temporary structure. We had to then go to appeal to the Secretary of State for a decision. Then the Department of Transport demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions to clear the passage for the Ark 's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it.

Getting the wood was another problem. All the decent trees have Tree Preservation Orders on them and we live in a Site of Special Scientific Interest set up in order to protect the spotted owl. I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go! When I started gathering the animals, the RSPCA sued me. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodation was too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space.

Then the County Council, the Environment Agency and the Rivers Authority ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.

I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission on how many disabled carpenters I'm supposed to hire for my building team. The trades unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only accredited workers with Ark-building experience.

To make matters worse, Customs and Excise seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.

So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark. '

Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a Rainbow stretched across the sky.

Noah looked up in wonder and asked, 'You mean you're not going to destroy the world?'

'No,' said the Lord. 'The British government are beating me to it.'

TRAVEL DIARY

On a recent Adventure into the Outback of Australia, we discovered some beautiful areas in the Wildlife Parks, such as Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. There is a lot of natural pools and waterfalls, nestled amongst the vast Australian Bush.

With these natural wonders comes a kind of quirkiness.

Such as the Crocodile warning signs everywhere: it seemed Big, Ominous, Monstrous Crocs were lurking at every turn, just waiting for their lunchtime snack! Coming from Africa, we have a great respect for something with so many big teeth and a temperament to match.

Arriving at the rock pools, after seeing many warning signs along the way which makes the imagination run wild, we found people already happily swimming in the natural pools. Not a care in the world. So when in Oz, do as the Ozzies do. We naturally swam too. Assuming of course that the people already swimming furthest out in the pool would be the tastiest for a hungry Croc!

Granted it was really hot up in the Northern territory, sweltering heat in fact. So it was a question of how hot are you really? The temptation of a cool swim in the soothing rock pools apparently far outweighs the threat of a hungry “Saltie”. I don’t think we’re that tasty after all, and anyway, did anyone ask the Crocs?
